About Punkin’s

** PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THIS IS NOT A BAKERY!!**

THIS BLOG IS A MEANS FOR ME TO SHOWCASE MY HOBBY OF BAKING, AND SHARE SOME OF THE VARIOUS RECIPES, TIPS, AND PICTURES OF TREATS THAT I’VE MADE FOR FRIENDS AND FAMILY OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO LOOK AROUND, CHECK OUT THE TIPS, PICTURES, LINKS AND MORE!  I HOPE YOU ENJOY!

“Punkin’s Cake Shoppe”-the place where I can showcase my goodies-has been in my mind for many years. After discovering The Food Network and all of its culinary masterpieces, I couldn’t help but get the baking itch. I would constantly try to make, or at least attempt to mimick, various desserts and/or cakes that were made on such shows as Food Network Challenge, and the various TV shows dedicated to some of my favorite chefs (Giada, Paula, etc.). After teaching myself some very basic decorating skills, I decided I needed to really get serious about improving my skills as a cook/baker. Thus, I enrolled in my very first Wilton Cake Decorating class at my local Michael’s. The class was great, and showed me many a technique that I have used ever since those late night classes. But instead of continuing with more classes and instruction, I did what I thought best…I continued teaching myself.

As I found new recipes and new techniques I wanted to try, I enlisted my fellow co-workers to be my guinea pigs. And, as loving and caring friends and taste-testers, they have endured many a sugar-coated, fattening dessert on my behalf. Thanks to their selfless deeds and endurance, I have come out the better with a new understanding and admiration for baking. I also picked up some new tricks along the way, honed in on some skills I’d worked on for some time, and now can say I look forward to many more years of experimenting and improving the skills that I have.

With tht said, it’s been amazing to see how far I’ve managed to come in my knowledge and abilities as a self-taught baker. As I was thinking of a name for my blog, the practical conclusion was to find a name that was both unique and meaningful to me. Thus, the name “Punkin” came to mind. It’s cute, it’s memorable, and most importantly, it’s the nickname by which my Paw used to call me. So, in his honor, this blog is in part named after him. 🙂

The goal of “Punkin’s” is to showcase the various cakes that I’ve thought up and managed to put together over the last couple of years, as well as share some of the tips and recipes that I’ve used to help other create their own culinary masterpieces for those they care about.

I look forward to honing in further on my skills, both in baking and decorating, and my goal is to do so all to the glory of my Lord and Savior. My moto: In all things you do, do it to the glory of the Lord.

The Lord has been SO gracious to me throughout the years as you guys have encouraged me in my baking and decorating, and I look forward to continuing growing in knowledge and skill, and sharing more yummy creations with family and friends!!

    Bridgett,
I am so happy that you have finally ventured out and made this happen. As one of your many “guinea pigs” over the years, it’s been a pleasure to have had the chance to sample some of your wonderful confections, and they have been scrumptious! Keep up the great work and please let me know when you will be able to SHIP your confections to me up here in New England!

    Good Luck and Happy Baking!
