“Birthday Diva” Cupcake Tower & Cookies

A co-worker and good friend of mine celebrated her baby girl’s 1st Birthday today!! All I can say is time truly does fly!!

In honor of the ‘Lil Diva herself, her mommy wanted to have a super girly and of course, adorable themed birthday party. So, the party featured a ” ‘Lil Diva” Birthday Theme, decked out with balloons, purple and pink plates, napkins…you name it! It was definately a girl-worthy party!

Instead of a traditional Birthday Cake, the proud Mama wanted to go with a more modern twist, using a

"Birthday Diva" Leopard Print Topper

Cupcake Tower featuring Vanilla and Chocolate Cupcakes with Vanilla Buttercream. Some of the cupcakes were topped with solid pink and purple buttercream, while others featured a swirled buttercream design.

The topper included with the cake was made of Vanilla Cake with Vanilla Buttercream Frosting, and featured a fondant leopard-print and pearl design to match the party theme.

"Birthday Diva" Sugar Cookies

Also included with the Cupcake Tower were about two dozen Sugar Cookies decorated in a like manner, featuring pink and purple fondant pearls and a “1” for the special birthday!

The Cupcake Tower used for this party was an X-Small Tower, which featured three tiers and held two dozen cupcakes and the Topper.

Earlier in the week I was asked to make a Carrot Cake for one of the doctors at my office. So, in compliance with the Doctor’s orders, this cake was made especially for Dr. Kramer.

The cake was a simply decorated 8 inch round cake featuring Cream Cheese Frosting and Cream Cheese Frosting Rose and piping detail.

Happy Birthday Dr. Kramer!!

Dr. Seuss Birthday Cake

Character Detail

The Cat in the Hat is now the Cat on the Cake…

This weekend I had the opportunity to make a special birthday cake for a very special young man. A friend of mine asked that I make a Dr. Seuss themed cake for her son, since the Dr. Seuss collection is one of his favorites!

She sent me a couple of pictures from a variety of  the Birthday Boy’s favorite books, and the picture I incorporated into the cake was one that I thought captured that sense of fun and the unique look that is identified with the Dr. Seuss classics.

For the decor, I decided to utilize both fondant and buttercream to give the cake a cartoon-like appearance. I simply cut out outlines of the characters from the book in fondant, and then proceeded to pipe, in buttercream, the details that make each character unique. Although I loved creating the infamous Cat in the Hat and his helper, I must say…the pale of ice cubes was my favorite part of this cake design! I loved the overall look that I was able to accomplish with the ice–using both the airbrush and buttercream icing to pipe the additional “cartoony” details. To say the least, I was thrilled with the outcome and I hope that the Birthday Boy was just as thrilled with the overall look of the cake.

The cake itself was a Half Sheet Cake and consisted of Lemon Cake Batter, Raspberry Pastry Cream filling, and Lemon Buttercream Frosting.

Happy Birthday Evan!!!

“Rene” Birthday Cake

"Rene" Birthday Cake

This week I had the opportunity to make a cake for a sweet, sweet lady who I had the pleasure of making a huge cake for last year! For her birthday, the Birthday Girl decided that she wanted a Vanilla Cake with Raspberry Buttercream Filling with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting to finish it all off! The cake also featured Buttercream Roses and Writing detail.

The flavors of this cake were very similar to the flavors that Rene chose for the German Beer Boot Cake that was made for her husband’s birthday last year. To check out what flavors and details were used in the German Beer Boot Cake, take a look at the picture below, or check out the blogpost on the cake, listed under “German Beer Boot Cake.”

This weekend my aunt hosted a Biltmore Inspirations Party with the help of her friend Tiffany, who’s a Biltmore Inspirations Employee. The party was fabulous, with many of the Biltmore line products out on display.

For the event, I was asked to provide some cupcakes to go along with the yummy food already included in the buffet.

The cupcake tower that was featured at the party was the X-Small size and it held Red Velvet Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting, Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcakes, Vanilla Cupcakes with Chocolate Buttercream, and Strawberry Shortcake Cupcakes, all in minis.

Chocolate Birthday Cake…Revised

5 Aug

I made a quick revision this morning to the Chocolate Birthday cake that I posted in the wee hours of the morning. Instead of the piped Buttercream design, I went back and used gumpaste to make a skateboard, a rail, and a ramp. The end result was more satisfactory to my tastes. Check it out!!
